Wind conditions

The sub-Velebit section of the A1 Zagreb-Split-Ravča motorway is characterized by very unfavorable meteorological conditions (storm wind) especially in winter, which leads to the cases of temporary closure of individual sections of the A1 motorway, the most frequent in various combinations being the sections on the Sveti rok section. Deadline - Maslenica node - Posedarje node.

Some sections of the highway are closed due to winds that exceed the boundaries above which there is a risk of further traffic or of a group of vehicles. The closure for highway section traffic is carried out for the 1st group of vehicles or for all vehicles depending on the wind speed and the pavement condition (dry, wet). The first group of vehicles includes all types of highway vehicles except passenger cars.

  • Before traveling on the road and while driving, listen to the weather forecast and road information on the radio frequency HR2.
  • Keep track of messages on info-displays about traffic restrictions on individual sections of the highway and notifications of possible detours.
  • You respect the traffic signage that indicates a detour, as it will take you back to the highway again and towards your desired destination.
  • When driving on a section of the highway under the influence of wind, you must strictly observe the variable light speed limit signs and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

Winter conditions

  • Before traveling, be informed in due time of the weather, condition and patency of the roads you will be driving.
  • Prepare your vehicle for driving in accordance with the applicable regulations that require the use of winter equipment on the vehicle at a time when winter conditions are in force. We recommend that you
  • use winter tires (M + S) during the winter, and it is advisable to have additional equipment (snow chains, folding shovel, vehicle starter cables - "clips") in the vehicle.
  • Before departure check the vehicle fluids (antifreeze, engine oil, windshield washer fluid) and the condition of the battery.
  • While on the freeway, regularly listen to the weather and road information via radio (HR2). Adjust your speed and safety clearance with other vehicles according to road conditions. Respect the variable light
  • signaling installed on all characteristic sections of the highway.
  • When traveling on winter conditions, drive cautiously, avoiding overtaking, sudden braking and accelerating, and sudden changes in direction of travel.

Vehicle in the opposite direction

Vehicle in the opposite direction

  • When engaging in highway driving, in all cases (toll, junctions, landing points), be careful and follow the traffic signs so that they do not find themselves in the opposite direction of a part of the highway.
  • When driving on the motorway, be aware of the possibility of encountering a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, so it is advisable to check the traffic lane ahead of you in addition to checking the
  • vehicles moving behind you.
  • Keep up to date with traffic information on the roads by radio (HR2), which will give you timely information on a possible highway reverse incident, as well as important messages and tips for safe driving.
  • Observe obligations and restrictions through light-variable signage and messages on information portals.

IMPORTANT NOTE

  • If you receive information (radio) about the direction of the vehicle in the opposite direction, reduce the speed to 40 km / h on the part of the highway you are on, and proceed with caution to the right lane without overtaking with all four direction indicators on. Stop the vehicle at the first stop along the highway and wait for emergency information.
  • If you have spotted a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on the highway, immediately notify the police on tel. 192 (92) or by calling 112 (DUZS unique operational communication center). You can also send an email to info. HAC telephone 0800-0422.
  • Only when you are informed that the incident situation is over do you resume normal highway driving.

Highway assistance

  • In the event of a vehicle failure, if there is no possibility of stopping in the parking lot along the highway, stop the vehicle at the stop lane (or SOS) near the side of the roadway and switch on all 4 direction indicators.
  • Wear a reflective vest and place a safety triangle at a prescribed distance to mark a stopped vehicle (100 meters is recommended on the highway).
  • By calling 0800 18 18 (ORYX Assistance) or 112 (DUZS Unified Operations Communication Center), ask for technical assistance on the road (0-24h).
  • If necessary, you can request technical and other assistance via the SOS Telephone along the highway (SOS phones are 2,000 meters apart along the highway and are directly connected to the Traffic Control Center), where they will contact the operator at the Traffic Control Center.
  • Follow the operator's instructions and wait for towing or after-sales service at a safe place outside the vehicle.
  • In case the driver cannot remove the vehicle from the highway due to a failure of the vehicle, the highway manager shall immediately issue an Order on removal of the vehicle from the highway to the contracting officer at the expense of the vehicle owner, in accordance with Article 45, paragraph 4 of the Roads Act (OG 84/11). ), and Articles 35, 79, 140 and 180 of the Road Traffic Safety Act (Official Gazette 67/08 and 74/11), and until the vehicle is removed, the patrol will properly mark the stopped vehicle.
  • The costs of towing or servicing shall be borne by the user.

Safety distance

  • Driving at too short a safety distance is statistically one of the most common causes of road accidents. Most of this cause is also related to speeding.
  • According to the traffic rules of the Road Traffic Safety Act, the driver is obliged to keep the vehicle at such a distance from other vehicles in traffic that, given the speed of movement of the vehicle and other circumstances of traffic, it does not cause danger and does not interfere with other drivers.
  • The vast majority of drivers drive too close because of a lack of knowledge about the length of the stopping distance of their vehicle in relation to changes in road speed and pavement conditions.

What is the safety distance?

  • The safety rule applies: a driver driving another vehicle on the same lane must drive at a distance not less than the distance traveled by the vehicle at that speed in two seconds, unless otherwise specified by a traffic sign.
  • On wet pavement, the gap should be increased to 4 seconds and in winter conditions to a minimum of 6-8 seconds.
  • In ideal weather conditions, the safety distance of 2 seconds at each speed is:

speed (km/h) safe distance (m`)
130 72
120 67
110 61
100 55
90 50
