Svilaj bridge project
Bridge Svilaj across the Sava River is part of international pan-European road corridor 5c- Budapest-Beli Manastir-Osijek-Sarajevo-Ploče. 5c corridor is part of European motorway network (where it bears designation E-73) which connects the north of Europe with the Adriatic and represents an axis of road traffic infrastructure in the eastern part of Croatia. The bridge across Sava is also the contact point between the motorway network of the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The bridge is 660 m long and 29 m wide in total. For each driving way three traffic lanes are foreseen of 3,50 m width without an emergency lane with protective marginal strips of 0,5 m on both sides and a monolith concrete footway of 0,75 m.
The joint construction of the bridge is realised pursuant to the bilateral agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the construction of a cross-border bridge across Sava near Svilaj and connecting border sections of the motorway on 5c corridor. According to the agreement each country shall finance 50% of the contract value of works.
Financing of Croatian part of the bridge is ensured through CEF fund (57,97%) and the EIB loan.
The value of contracted works is €22,308,022.34 (VAT excluded).
The contractor for the bridge works is a joint venture consisting of Viadukt d.d., Zagreb and Hering d.d. from Široki Brijeg, and the works should be completed within two year`s since the commencement of works.
The works on bridge construction started in September 2016 and should take two years.
After the bridge has been completed, 59 km of A5 motorwy A5 Beli Manastir - Osijek - Svilaj will be opened to traffic as a full scale motorway with a border crossing.
